Host your next holiday party, charity fundraiser, or company event at the historic Columbia Theatre in
downtown Portsmouth. Our space features 3 bars, a performance stage with state-of-the-art sound
system, and a large dance floor space with new epoxy floors.
The entire space accommodates 1,100, however most of our events will be held in the concert arena
(with stage, dance floor and a full bar) and upstairs bar only. The front bar might be open to the public
during your event; however, they can’t access the event venue. If you would like to rent the entire
space, please contact us to discuss details.

Hourly rental fee. Includes set-up and clean-up time. This fee is for our concert venue area with full bar, stage, dance floor, upstairs bar space with pool table and private bathrooms for your guests only.

Can we bring in alcohol?No. All alcohol service must go through the Columbia, but we can tailor our bar service to fit your party needs! We will provide tip jars for our staff.

Do you provide security guards?Security Guards can be hired for $50/hour. We have an extensive video security system that manages all sections of our bar, inside and out, to monitor theft.

How about music? Is that included in our cost?The Columbia has a state-of-the-art sound system and can play background music of your choice. If you would like to hire a DJ for your event, the cost of the DJ would be your responsibility. The DJ would need to contact us 1 week before your event to discuss set-up and sound needs. If you need to use a microphone for your event (awards banquet or fundraiser) that would be included in your cost. We have a maximum noise level set by our AV specialist.

Can we bring in our favorite caterer?Yes. We allow outside food to be brought into our venue. We do not provide warming trays, plates, bowls, cutlery, serving utensils or napkins. We have a working relationship with “The Ribber” and “Pizza Pub” and would be happy to help facilitate catering with those 2 restaurants. We ask that you inform us who will be bringing in the food so we can communicate with them regarding set-up needs.

Are we allowed to decorate the venue?We allow removable objects such as flowers, balloons, streamers, and banners. Objects can’t be attached to our walls with nails, pushpins, or hooks. Please use tape or Contact strips only. No confetti, bubbles or pinatas. All decorations brought in by guest must be removed at the end of the event.

How late can we stay?Our venue events need to be completed by midnight.

Can minors attend private events?Yes, however if alcohol is served guests 21+ who purchase drinks will need a wristband.
